I feel you, I was born in 1996 and I feel like the pre-2000s were a darker, blander and more cramped time period. When I picture the turn of the century I picture everything bursting into technicolour.
I know this isn’t true and I just think this way because I scarcely remember the 90s. Infact the beginning of the 2000s co-incided with a boom in the quantity and detail of my autobiographical memories.
A year starting “nineteen” does sound old fashioned, almost quaint. I’m sure in many years it will become an age-related insult, “Your momma so old her year of birth starts with 19” or along those lines.
