  • "Everything from the 20th Century backwards seems like another world to me, and actually living then is something I can’t really imagine."

I remember when 1984 was a big deal. I remember when 1999 was a big year cause they were worried about Y2K compliancy. Yeah, they thought computers would crash and basically the world would end in darkness.

In the 1900's though, yeah we typically would just call the year in two digits. I was born in 74. I started school 81. Graduated in 93.

To ME, it still sounds and feels weird to think we are in the 2000's. Like in less than six months, we will be in the 20's. My mind still thinks 1920's.

For the record, when us Gen Xer's were kids in the 80's, we didn't think the world would last until 2000. It just seemed so far away. Thinking of year 2000 was like thinking we would have civilizations on other planets if we didnt die in world war 3.

Kids I gotta tell you - it is true, the older you get, the faster time seems to go. For me, the 80's seemed an eternity, good or bad parts. Lately, I am wondering where the hell the 2010's went? One day in 2010 I moved to where I live now, and from there it is just a blur.

    • Same. Knowing 2020 is so close fills me with a strange feeling of sadness. Half because I'm getting old, half because I'm disappointed we still don't have spaceships.

    • Time does seem to be speeding up as we age... I remember going to Germany to study in 2011. I messed about in the army before going to university, studied, graduated, swapped jobs a few times, was depressed af, started selling cars, made a business and here I am. Most of my friends are now married and have children.

And somehow it seems like yesterday when we'd host parties in each other's dorm rooms and go to the lake during summer and drink until we pass out.
It seems like yesterday when I got my drivers license and my Mercedes. Back in 2010, she was just 5 years old. I was the definition of cool XD
Now my C-class is 14 years old... Damn!

It's kinda depressing to think that my 3 most beloved cars are all within the 12-14 year range and cost a total of 15 grand. Cars most people would describe as "an old Mercedes", not a classic one, but an old one.
Still, I keep reminding myself that those babies once cost a fortune and I should keep them looking like they cost a fortune.
