Is it normal i think certain how to books should be illegal?

I think certain "How to" books need to be outlawed. Legally you can publish anything in book form. I totally get freedom and speech and all that but if something is going against other laws it should not be allowed.

Apparently if you buy a "How to kill your wife and get away with it" it makes you look suspicious. However publishing "How to kill your wife and get away with it" is legal.

Also I have personally seen books like this at the local book store. They were next to the "How to make pottery" and "How to draw" books. There was a book about "How to kill people" and "How to be a terrorist". I just don't understand how you can legally sell this stuff?

If you want to buy "How to survive in the wilderness" since you like camping well yeah sure. However some of these books are obviously bad and should not be sold at all. Why would you sell this!

I mean writing about Sweeney Todd is not the same as saying "How I killed my wife" or "How to be a killer". These are instruction manuals for criminals just sitting right their on the shelves. For anyone to buy.

    Why censor everything? Yes, life is dangerous. You could build a bomb with stuff from your nearby pharmacy, and you wouldn't even need too much instructions.

      Yes, and I am saying not everyone knows how to do that. So we shouldn't tell them how.

    And just exactly who do you intend should decide which books to ban? The Catholic church? The Muslim Brotherhood? The current President or perhaps Geo Bush? Al-Qaeda or even you?
    It's a pretty slippery slope you are heading towards; "Caution Will Robinson, caution."

      No, books that tell you how to kill people. Not any old book. "How to kill a person" is a pretty clear message.

    If you're smart enough you don't need bomb making instructions or body armor or anything like that anyway. You can make it yourself. I made that point during an in class discussion once and the professor asked me later on if he should be worried about me...:/

      Yes, and not everyone is smart enough to pick this up on their own. Most people need instructions to do this stuff. You are assuming everyone is the same intelligence. Which is completely wrong. Some people are good at art naturally, some people pick up computer skills quickly, some people are better at sports since we are all designed differently.

        Touché. I guess my point is that I doubt how effective it would really be. For example, in china guns are banned, but that didn't stop a massacre which killed or injured 20 people recently when the attackers ran through a crowd weilding knives. I can agree that a certain level of censorship is a good idea though, in the case of bomb making and such.

          I am not talking about guns. I am talking about giving someone the knowledge to kill. I never said anything about banning weaponry. Having a weapon does not mean you have the ability to use it or pull off a crime.

              No it doesn't. Having a weapon doesn't mean you know how to properly use it. It also doesn't mean you know how to pull off a murder.

    How about this proposal? Not only do they ban these types of books, but they also censor this type of information from being discovered via the Internet. I remembering hearing either during the Boston Marathon bombing or the Sandy Hook shooting that information on these types of things, like making a bomb, can be found online. They should also put a ban on 3D printed weapons. I also think that the US government should put an outright ban on guns, which should help to curb our gun culture. There's a lot of stuff that needs to be done that our government isn't taking care of!

      If all guns were banned in the US tomorrow...we wouldn't have enough jail cells to hold the number of gun owners in this country and we would probably go bankrupt feeding and housing the number of inmates such a law would create. Not to mention the armed rebellion it would more than likely cause. I do believe in sensible gun laws but like it or not, guns will always be a part of American culture.

      I don't think you can legally make a weapon without a papers saying you can. You cant even own a gun without a license so why do you believe anyone can just manufacture them and sell them without the proper papers? Also 3D printers are expensive and not just anyone is going to be able to afford one.

        You don't need a permit for long guns. You may or may not need a permit for handguns depending on where you live.
