I agree with Snarkygirl, it is a definite sign of schizophrenia.
My understanding is that it is much more common (I think I once read something like 1 in every 20 may have even minor schizophrenia).
You cannot have a 'conversation' with the voices in your head OR allow the voices to bring up new ideas you have never thought of! They are ONLY your ideas and just YOU speaking to yourself, but since you stated this so easily as if its normal, then yes I'd definitely state strong case of schizophrenia.
It can be brought on by stress or drugs and is treatable.
Schizophrenia is not something to be proud of, it is a corruption in your mental state, and requires professional help.
Sometimes people DO think they hear things (like our name being called or other words that are likely accountable to any number of 'noises' or even if you are just so use to hearing the same thing over and over < These things are normal). But how you explained your issue does NOT seem normal to me.
Don't you realise the dangerous repurcussions of giving a superficial diagnosis of serious mental illness based on a brief IIN post or don't you care? You'd "definitely state strong case of schizophrenia" - what dangerous BULLSHIT.
You then backed up your ignorant and alarmist crap by implying you came to this conclusion because OP stated his concerns "so easily as if it's normal". Which "corruption" of your "mental state" gives you the grandiose idea that you can diagnose OP's mental illness partly on the evidence of her/his ability to express her/himself in writing?
And you "think" you "once read something" about statistics? That's a serious piece of research, congratulations: good basis for a PhD thesis... NOT.
I guess you'd diagnose me with schizophrenia too, because sometimes when I'm stressed & trying to do too much too quickly, I hear in my head the voice of a long dead friend telling me to slow down, exactly as she used to do in life. Mental conversations with oneself are just as likely to be a sign of mental health or attempts to regain it: for example Cognitive Behavior Therapy is based on the concept of countering negative thoughts with pre-planned positive ones, which is a form of talking to oneself mentally.
I strongly suggest you consider the possible effects of your words before you hit send: I'll bet not only OP but heaps of other vulnerable people reading your crap are now worrying that they too may have schizophrenia.
Thank you for your advice.
I obviously meant it as 'in my (non PhD) opinion'
After re-reading, I should have also stated to seek professional advice, as my opinion could be totally wrong obviously.
Ellana, when the OP comes onto this forum and asks for an IIN answer to possible medical conditions, it is obviously a sensitive area BUT it does enable the responder to throw in their own thoughts on the matter.
All replies to such conditions, should be taken as a personal point of view and NOT a medical diagnosis! I suspect something to that effect would also be in the rules.
In saying that, for future posts I will state clearly (for sensitive areas such as this) that it is my personal opinion and therefore seek professional diagnosis.
The SAME could be said for others who actually state: "common and normal", who inadvertently ALSO misdiagnose a real issue. But I suspect you may not understand that, as I do.
Thanks heaps for supporting
Me elanna :-) and yeah the voice I hear is exactly what the persons would say if they were there at the time or at least my
Opinion of it
That's entirely normal, as is rehearsing possible future conversations in one's head - not only normal, but common. I hope you're ignoring the scaremongers.
Dad sometimes
I stress when work gets hectic etc but I have never ever touched a street drug in my
Life so I would say Highly
Unlikely so plz don't just jump and diagnose me with "definites"
It was not a definite this is it, just an opinion.
I'll try to be more relaxed in submitting a 'strong' opinion without holding the credentials to allow this.
Thanks for your reply.
Is it normal I sort of hear voices?
