Is it normal i say weird things to see if anyone is listening?

Sometimes my friends dont pay attention to me so I will say something like, " cats smell weird after you microwave them" just to see if anyone is listening or even cares.(I have never harmed a cat)

    yeah when I talk to my friends they just interupt or talk over the top of me. I started doing the same thing the other day. They were talking over the top of me and normally I just lose my train of thought, get annoyed and stop talking but this time I just kept going, talking absolute rubbish. They didn't notice had no reaction and just kept on with what they were saying.
    Sigh.

    Yes I do that to two co workers.It's better than my abusive boyfriend snapping his fingers in my face when I don't hear him.He is on my list of people to get even with LOL

    i do this to my mum all the time, usually when she's reading the paper "...... so after that we got popcorn and got the ticket and ohhh your not even listening to me... okay then"

    That seems sort of detrimental to your self esteem, assuming you depend on them for confidence. I mean don't get me wrong I know plenty of people do this, but eventually they'll stop caring, or stop responding. And you'll feel less loved and more ignored in the long run. If they're not paying attention to you try speaking up.
