Unfortunately we can't really decide which words an individual feels should or shouldn't be racist and offensive to them. Just because you think the word is harmless doesn't mean everyone else will.
you can't really ... perfect example, once a lady at my job went of on me for referring to her as black. even though i think that term is socially acceptable in my country, she said "african american" is the proper term. but i've read that some actual africans take offense to that term bc most people of african descent in america don't actually embrace true african culture or even look like africans. so you really can't please everyone and there's gonna be times that you unintentionally offend someone.
