Is it normal i only tell people i'm hawaiian?

Is it normal when people ask about my ethnicity I only say I'm Hawaiian? I'm half Black and Hawaiian, but I only look Pacific. My adoptive parents are white and I raised in a huge family with Navajo, Black and Korean and White siblings, so it's not like I'm racist or anything. It's rare someone can tell I'm bi-racial and I don't mind telling them if they specifically ask, but it just seems easier to say I'm Hawaiian...plus they think it's cooler LOL! I don't feel like I should give my entire pedigree when someone is curious.

  • yeah i am bi-racial too. latina and asian, so sometimes i get lazy and tell them i am the race least likely to them so they dont have to act surprised (most see me as the race they are not more). it doesn't sound like you're ashamed or anything so perfectly normal!

  • You're background sounds pretty awesome. I too am bi-racial, I am half black and half white and I don't resemble either ethnicity. If someone is interested to know what my ethnicity is, I personally tell them that I am half black and half white, one reason is that I don't see myself as one or the other and on top of that, they would probably be really confused if I said I was just white or just black. I don't see the problem with saying that you are only Hawaiian, but from my point of view I think if you told someone you were both black and hawaiian, they would still think it to be cool and it might even surprise them because they would have never thought you were black. But, if it is easier for you to say that you are hawaiian so be it. You are more than just hawaiian, let people know that you are bi-racial if the subject arises.
