I've been on the other end of this situation and seen how upset it made my partner. Regardless of the way I present myself on here I am probably one of the nicest, most respectful partners anyone is likely to have but I still found it impossible to help my partner not have their own difficulties.
I highly suggest you make this a private affair. You may even be pleasantly surprised. I had a 21 year old that was a virgin earlier this year and she had somehow already inadvertently broke her hymen and there was no pain or blood at all. Horse or bicycle riding among other things can do this.
Or if you chose to get a partner involved, make SURE it's someone you trust and who will be supportive/patient, someone you can have a laugh with if you get nervous or whatever.
Also, for the record, it didn't hurt me. But, just to make you laugh I'll tell you what happenned (I was also 21). I wanted to just get done with the hymen business so I decided to do something silly (but even then it didn't hurt): I sat on my boyfriend very decidedly like "ok, so that's done then".
(This is irrelevant but made me laugh to remember: And well, he was also a virgin so after that it lasted 3 seconds and he could only say: this was too good, I wish I could explain with words how god it was, I almost fear you are missing out. hahahahaa)
