I've always been like you. I'm too scared to be hurt so whenever someone comes to me and treats me so nicely, I don't easily let myself fall for that person even how much he says he likes me. But I give in with those I can feel sure that they are nice, and will not hurt me. So in your case, if you feel like he's really good and you're comfortable around him, just let your heart decide whether to go for it and give it a chance or stay the same, be single and distant yourself from him. Like someone said, love is worth the risk..especially with that special someone who is genuinely nice to you.
