My mom both squat pees and craps when she's away from home. She always has and it's become normal to her. When I was about 10 she insisted on teaching me on one trip where we used several Interstate rest stop bathrooms, but I just couldn't get it right and I would just throw myself onto the stool and cry and she just gave up on me. However, I've learned that many Asian countries pretty much require the squat, because you just stand over a hole-like opening in the floor, and often without a privacy door, you empty yourself.
