  • But ceasing to make an effort doesn't have to mean giving up: I used to be much more argumentative than I am now. I still have strong opinions about many issues, but I've decided now I'm old I don't have enough life left to waste my time arguing with people who are never going to change their minds. Anyway, letting myself get angry about things I can't change is very bad for my blood pressure and my general stress levels.

I still love a good thoughtful civilised debate but only in the spirit of exploration and sometimes (VERY occasionally) I even change my mind after listening to others.

    • Okay. Understandable. But you are still giving up by definition, whenever you choose to stop arguing. No matter the reason, however good of a reason it is. I didn't say giving up means admitting defeat.

      • Agreed however giving up does mean defeat.

They have nothing more to say thus they lose the battle

        • Well you can believe that if it makes you feel better, but removing oneself from pointless argument with stubborn arrogant people isn't giving up, it's only deciding to stop wasting time & energy. Life's just too short for that bullshit
