The whole point of making people suffer is to make people learn from their mistakes. Pain serves as a tool to avoid things. What is the point of making people suffer for eternity if it's not going to be used as a learning tool? It would be better to mentally scar them and then release them, and their only hope of healing is to redeem themselves and change their ways.
Well that sounds like corporal punishment which I totally agree with. However most people do not agree with such thoughts. I believe the punishment should fit the crime and that they should beat kids when they are young so they learn not to pick on the jump each other at school. Like teenagers seem to love doing.
