God alone leads to happiness. God did want his people to be free; he wanted his people to be able to freely choose good. If he did not, we would not have free will. He does not, however, want his people to choose evil, and ability to choose evil is something that American-style freedom entails. True Christian freedom (which is a good freedom that leads to happiness, because it leads to God) is a different type of freedom from what you believe is freedom.
America is all about "freedom" to choose what one likes so long as it does not prevent others from choosing what they like. That is not true Christian freedom, since it allows private sin to flourish, and even, at times, allows horrific public sins to flourish, such as those of abortion, fornication, and public professions of heresy and apostasy. America is based heavily around heresy and allowing people to believe whatever falsehoods they wish, no matter how detrimental to the people's well-beings those beliefs may be. It also is based on allowing people to speak their false beliefs, harming others greatly in the process.
Adam and Eve had free will; if they did not, they would never have eaten the fruit against God's orders to begin with, since one without free will cannot go against God's orders.

Free will and the ability to choose the path of evil has nothing to do with America it's because the forbidden fruit was eaten.

But the bible literally says humans didn't have free will until we ate from the forbidden tree all of that would have happened anyway.
