Is it normal i have an intense hatred of encyclopedia dramatica?

I recently came across a site called Encyclopedia Dramatica which I understand is quite well known. It seemed pretty funny, so I explored further. I thought it was just a harmless comedy site making fun of random stuff. Then I came across pages on more serious subjects, and my view began to change. The site makes fun of some things that simply SHOULD NOT be made fun of. I'm not a sensitive person but I can't believe the awful things on that site. It mocks suicide, terrorism, rape and many other terrible things. Harmlessly making fun of celebrities or whatever is fine, but there's a line and Encyclopedia Dramatica crosses it. It needs to be shut down. In fact, I can't believe it hasn't yet been shut down.

    Hmm. I have a lot of mixed thoughts about offensive humour.

    I don't think it's wrong to be offensive, but you should offend the right people. Why offend abuse victims and families of murdered people when you can offend greedy people or arrogant people or cruel people? Those are the people who actually deserve to feel offended, and if offending those people isn't as fun to you I think you should look at the possible reasons why you feel that way.

    I think if something is both mean and funny, the funniness doesn't make the meanness more acceptable. I think a lot of people say "it's only a joke" as a defense, to make someone look "over-sensitive" just for calling them out on their shit. It is a classic manipulation trick of a bully to dis-empower people who stand up to them, and it works on a lot of people.

    I think some articles on websites like Encylopedia Dramatica only exist to get a kick out of being offensive and edgy, which I think is boring and not really funny at all.

    About Encylopedia Dramatica specifically. Encylopedia Dramatica has parts you like a lot and parts you don't like at all. When there is a something which has parts I like a lot and parts I don't like at all, I take what I like and leave the rest. It's okay to find some parts good but think other parts are horrible and should not even exist. You're allowed to feel that way - it isn't a contradiction.

    It's obviously not for you. Making fun of celebrities is pretty normal/mainstream. ED is for a more obscure type of humor..

    You might want to try Uncyclopedia instead..

      No, I'm not trolling (my name is TrollsAreStupid :P ). I know it's not for me which is why I don't browse it, I think it's worse than just not being my sort of site. It could be upsetting/triggering to others, and even with the "don't read it if you're going to get upset" argument, it's just plain wrong in my opinion to make fun of those things.

        I dont really understand that point of view, as I can only see actions as being "wrong" in the moral sense like you're saying. Since its just words it doesn't bother me and I don't see why it should.. But your view is common.. However, I am pretty disgusted by the certain pages they have on tht site about actual torture and show pics of it, but other than that I enjoy the dark humor

    Ah, Encyclopedia Dramatica. I used to have an account and would contribute to that site by editing/adding articles and discussing stuff in the forums. I would even send people I dislike on Facebook a link to the Offended page. Good times.

    Anyway, not all web sites are to people's taste. What some find taboo to make fun of, other people can look at through a humorous light. Yep, some people can find crude humor funny. Also, the site has been shut down numerous times, but there was always someone there to resurrect it. It's best not to get angry over a website, OP. In the end, it's really just that: a website. One can choose to go to it if they enjoy it, or they can choose not to if they dislike it.
