I agree. Phobias are irrational fears not contempt or distaste for certain types of behavior. Fear has nothing to do with these people's reaction to homosexuality.
It isn't even gay people's intention to point out the fear element. It's more like a tactic to deceive society into thinking that it's the ones who dislike gays that have the "disease". I say disease because that is how they want it to sound like. That explains the correlation between phobias (who are irrational mental illnesses) and the term homophobia. Homophobia isn't even a real disease. Yet they want to classify it as such. Homo "phobia" is just a reaction caused by prejudice and/or lack of knowledge regarding human behavior.
But yeah, it's a diversion more than anything else. Gay people want to act like they are normal and it's the others who have the illness.
