It isn't okay to wish your girlfriend sever ties with something she cares about just because their presence bothers you. Apparently she gets what she needs out of that cat the way you get what you need out of a dog. The cat does something for you by extension of your girlfriend. It doesn't really matter if you understand the cat, only that you understand what they mean to her.
