I suppose, never attended one because of being too shy. But I still don't know if I get way too childish. For example, when I wear something fluffy like an unicorn suit, I just dance to childish musics and want to hug everyone.
It's still okay if you want it to be something just for yourself, but being open about it may help you feel less insecure. Ultimately if you are comfortable doing it yourself and comfortable with yourself, just enjoy what you do.

Of course that's normal! Cosplay conventions are open to adults, and they all seem to have a great time. I think that's a really cool hobby to have!
