It seems to me that being triggered in any emotional direction by something that's fundamentally trivial in the grand scheme of things is a sign that there's other stuff in your life that you're very unhappy about.
Interesting how you say this has only become a problem over the last year. The pandemic has seriously screwed with almost everyone's head in various ways. It's possible to be emotionally fragile even when we believe we're coping just fine with the crap going on in the world around us.
Oh yes it has. I had to be a lead role when it happened and had to deal with people in the company commiting suicide because they couldn't handle lock down. I believe we have all been deeply ruined by this but so were the people who lived through the depression.
