Is it normal i feel like my gifts are never good enough?

I got my friend a Burberry watch this year for his birthday/ Christmas (his birthday is only a few days before Christmas). I was really happy about it at first, but after a while, I kept thinking about how every gift I gave him is just taking up space and collecting dust in his drawer or something, and for the watch, someone gave him a D&G watch a few years ago. It's the same colour as the one I just bought, and they're both chronograph so they look very similar. What's the point in having two watches that look the same? I feel shitty about buying such useless things for him all the time. I feel like the only thing that would make him happy is if I bought him a house. I'm currently on the other side of the country so I can't even see him on his birthday. It makes me feel depressed at the fact that I can never give him something that'll make him happy, and I hate myself for it. Is this normal?

I always feel this way when I.give gifts. But it is important to remember that gifts don't have to be perfect and it really is the showing that u care more than what the item is

wow you should send me some of the gifts you think aren't good enough! i'm sure i would be ecstatic to receive them =) you're fine, not everyone buys people presents so you're already way ahead of the game.

  • I think the fact that you cared enough to buy him a nice gift shows that you care about it. It really is the thought that actually counts. Don't beat yourself up over it.

The gifts are just tokens of something more important (friendship).
Which do you value more, his gifts or his company? From the way you seem to care about him so much, I'd take a guess its his company, :) and that is also what you should expect your friend to value most about you.
The fact that you're focusing so much on the gifts makes me think you actually don't think *you* are good enough. Do you think that might be true?
The first step to solving any problem is to find the source of it. :)

You're right about me not feeling good enough. I've actually told him that before, and asked why he even hangs out with me. Maybe this feeling will go away when I go home. Thanks :)

I feel the exact same way. I got him a samsung galaxy for xmas and i feel like he's going to be like "what do i need this for?" and then end up returning it. i have no idea how to make him happy.

Oh wow :S yeah.. He wanted to know what I got him but I wouldn't tell him so he kept guessing all these things like earrings, rings, necklaces, clothes, bracelets, and some other things, but I was like wow.. He's going to be disappointed when he finds out what I got him.. Hope he likes your gift!!

Your friends and family are just thankful that you buy them gifts, doesn't matter what it is. It's the thought that counts.
