Wow ... not everything in life is a tragedy. I have never met a single person who had serious hang ups in their lives because they were absolutely shocked Santa Claus wasn't real. If you honestly believe parents torture their children by letting them believe a jolly fat man with extreme generosity will give them a gift if they were good all year, then no that's not normal.
People should be disgusted with actual torture, like rape or kidnapping; not Santa Claus.
Letting your child's believe something is not the issue. Putting the lie in their head when you don't in fact believe it yourself is the issue. Choosing not to tell someone the truth is entirely different apposed to putting the thought their yourself. Also no where did I say rape and kidnapping was ok.
You asked why parents enjoy torturing their children... The idea of Santa Claus is not torture any way you slice it. Little white lies to your children isn't either. I was giving you an example of what actual torture is because it sounds like you are very confused.

It does when you have to tell them "Oh yeah I lied". Its still lying to your child for no reason.
