Is it normal, I don't want a funeral for myself?

  • My dad died 10 years ago, and he did not want a funeral either. He said he did not want to be mourned. But the way I saw it at the time, I was going to mourn him whether we had a funeral or not. And since it was my decision (I took care of him for 17 years) I decided to have a funeral. Maybe I should have respected his wishes, but when you think about it, funerals are for the living. So they can get closure. Granted they don't have to be so sad and morbid, its true. It sounds to me like you wound be more comfortable with a "Life Celebration". It's a lot more positive, focusing on the person's life rather than death.
