I am not going to say this again. I am not talking about dangerous activities. This post is about cutting. I told her what I see as a problem with cutting. If you want to discuss the dangers of driving and rock climbing then do so seperately. But I'm talking about what is wrong with cutting. Because this post is about cutting. Not rock climbing.
Right, but the point is that your post made it sound like cutting is PARTICULARLY dangerous. The rock climbing and driving points were analogies, not subject changers. You said "No matter how safe you are and how hygienic you are being, there is no such thing as safe enough when it comes to purposefully putting your body and life on the line for some momentary pleasure." If the problem is really the risk, then the same argument should hold for pleasure activities of equal or greater risk. In fact, if you really think that "there is no such thing as safe enough", then that should apply to any pleasure activity that involves any potential deadly risk, such as driving to the movies.
I hope that that clears up my argument here. Again, I'm not arguing that cutting is healthy, but I also don't think arguments that talk about it being deadly are very helpful. If you know that somebody's cutting very deep where they're likely to hit a vein or get an infection, then that's relevant. Most cases aren't as severe as that, though (though I do recognise that infection is a possibility no matter how careful you are). When I self injured, people who would argue that how cutting could kill me just alienated me. To me, the risk was worth it, and the way people panicked and exaggerated the risk ruined their credibility and made me even more reluctant to seek help.
I am not arguing from personal feelings.
And the fact is that cutting has lead to death. It's not an argument, speak to an EMT. I'm sorry that it alienated you but I can't help that. Cutting is often a symptom of a deeper psychological issue and I don't feel that people should ignore cutting behaviors in others and pass it off as normal because people who drove also put themselves at risk.
And we are NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT talking about various risky activities we are talking about cutting. If this post were about what is wrong with rock climbing or driving your comments would be relevant but it is not and they are not.
I'm not going to apologize for others making you feel alienated. I did not call for an alienation of cutters and if the risk is worth it to you, go ahead!
But the question is what is wrong with cutting, and I answered. If it was what is wrong with rock climbing I'd have given an appropriate answer. I identified some of the risks of cutting. If you don't like what I identified then feel free to challenge it on a scientific front. I did not claim that my list of what is wrong is all that is wrong with cutting.
There are many things wrong with many facets of human activity. We are talking about cutting. Your personal feelings are noted but they don't change the facts of my original post.
Is it normal I don't see what's wrong with cutting?
