This is normal. I hate affectionate contact in public, it makes me feel really uncomfortable. Mainly because I don't see the need to shove my relationship in people's faces. For example the other day I saw a guy carrying his girlfriend, whose legs were wrapped around his waist, through a shopping centre and kissing her. This was not needed. I just believe affection should be kept at home in private. I am only comfortable been affectionate with my boyfriend when nobody is around. It has caused problems in my relationships in the past but I just had to find a guy that felt the same way.
