I understand where you're coming from and have contemplated the question many times.
I will agree with you on most of the things that you stated. Populations are only going to increase (who knows at what rate and where) and resources are going to be continually strained and drained (for some nations). So what do we do? If at this rate, the life expectancy keeps rising, people will continually live longer and that's where the trouble comes in.
Things such as war, poverty and diseases have naturally kept populations lowered a bit through history. And now it seems like we're trying to reverse that (at a rapid rate).
As crude as it all sounds, holistically, yes it's good for us as a race to have diseases, wars and other things like that, to keep our population down enough to sustain living.
But the big question remains: what if you or a loved one gets something like cancer, or a terminal illness, do you still feel the same way?
That is something, we as humans, have to juggle with as time progresses. It should be interesting to see how it plays out.
