The clue is in your own statement about "trying to forget." In trying to forget something specific, you have to remind yourself what it is so you end up remembering rather than forgetting.
Something most of us learn (apart from serial killers) is that fantasy is typically better than reality. More importantly, fantasies are yours alone, free of social pressures and a great way to self-help. Rather than trying to forget her,, EMBRACE whatever scenarios you're imagining while your g/f's asleep/out/wherever. Chances are, you'll replay the same scenarios to some conclusion you can't get beyond and will soon tire of them or at least get them into a more comfortable perspective. A bit of proactive obsessing NOW will save you months or years of trying (and failing) to forget. It might seem disloyal to your g/f in the short term, but you're doing it for long term good.
Is it normal I can't stop thinking about this girl even after 5 yrs?
