Think of the gauge as 'anything' at your work, if you don't steal it, you won't steal anything again.
Also, please buy your wife something feminine. Or better yet, take her out for a romantic evening, but please don't run out when you get the bill, it can spoil a romantic evening.
I really want to throw that gauge in the lake before you see it again, but I'm not going to spend $20 (which I'm positive your manager will agree to) on rubbish!
Also note a packet of pens sometimes cost about $3 (or much less!) Don't steal anything from your employer, it is disrespectful, especially to people out of work! EDIT// You'll know what I mean by that one day!!
