Yes, this is completely normal. The reason why people would question this is because no matter what, black people are identified as the group bringing rap to the table the most and perhaps that is true. The problem though is that current rap that ends up advertised on TV and the radio is the most degrading, "I'm the best and eff everyone else" bull I've ever heard which is a shame because all rap is not like that. But since its what is popularly advertised then people go assuming that is all rap is and think its bad. I find rap with meaningful lyrics to be very relaxing and "cool" to listen to, something that can make you feel good about yourself.
Now if you'll excuse me , Samurai Champloo-"Battlecry" and Sonic Adventure 2-"Aquatic Mine" are calling my name.
