Is it normal i always clip my nails?

When I was a toddler, my Dad would scare me with the nail clipper. He was very rough. I tought myself to clip my nails so he wouldn't. I would clip them using my other finger nails. Over 10 years later I still do it every day and I can't stop. The urge is too strong. Is it normal I'm always clipping my nails?
