Is it normal he made a comment on race?

My boyfriend and I are both white, I live in a populated asian neighborhood. One day we were walking and he casually said 'there's a lot of chinese people here.' This comment took me back and all i could think to say was 'shh, don't be rude.' He then asks how he was being rude and I couldn't think of what to say. It's not that I think he's a rude person for making that comment, i just thought it was inappropriate to say out loud, it made me feel uncomfortable and was embarrassing for me to be around him at that moment, I'm not sure if anyone around us heard him. Shouldn't people keep those observations to themselves? Should I have felt embarrassed by what he said or not?

I think you just need to chill out and eat some fruit or something. It was not even a racist remark.

  • Erm, I get where you're coming from. It could come across as rude to others but I wouldn't say it was.

I remember Bill Burr made a joke about this exact scenario and like he said, it's just an observation, there are a lot of Asians in that place. However if he said ot like, "What the fuck are these Asians doing all here?!" Then it deffo is rude.

    Lol.
