Is it normal for your stomach to hurt terribly everytime you eat?

I'm 28 years old and for the past year or year and a half I have been having major problems with my stomach.... My doctor tells me I have ulcers.. So I am taking Nexium 40 mg..But still everytime I eat it feels as if my food isn't digesting..my stomach gets really hard and I start hurting in my stomach so dramitically that it goes through my back.. I don't think this is normal.. SO I could really use anyones help with this one..

I've had my own stomach problems and went to many doctors. They were never really ever able to help. I ended up seeing a naturopath and got so much better. It took a while and still in the process. (If you do see one, find one which specializes in digestion.)
Has your doctor actually confirmed you have ulcers or is he just making the assumption because of symptoms? You can also always get a second opinion from another doctor. Also, listen to the MSG comment possibly. My brother had similar problems and found MSG to be very hard on his stomach.

Did you ever see a gastro-intestinalist? Did you ever have tests done, like blood or urine work?

If the pains extend to your back it could be a gallstone or problem with your pancreas. I would suggest you go to a different doctor and explain to him or her that you have SEVERE pains that extend to your back and ask them if it could possibly be one of the above. It's very important that you include that bit of information.

If you have a digestive condition, it can be normal. I agree with the person that said see a gastroenterologist (not regular doctor). I have struggled with digestive issues all my life including ulcers but when properly medicated/managed, it won't bother you nearly as much if ever.

I used to have terrible stomach pains whenever I ate. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism (my thyroid gland was lazy and slowed my metabolism and made me tired and sick and I couldn't digest food properly) but the medication made me sick too, so I had a different doctor analyze me and I found out I was allergic to gluten. You could be too, or lactose intolerant? Try an organic low gluten diet and see if it works. I eat alot of salad and just cut back on potatoes and pasta and bread and it's helped ALOT.

Hi, I have chronic irritable bowel syndrome and also ulcerative colitis and an anxiety disorder, I get this all the time and when I eat or even drink, I get cramps and bloating and churning, sometimes nauseous and even makes me need to poo and it's painful, however the pain going up your back after eating, I think you should request to be checked for gallstones, my sister had this and she thought she had developed my ulcerative colitis too, then they found gallstones!!! Good luck!

I too have had years of stomach issues with varying diagnosisies. I highly recommend seeing a Gastroenterologist. A true internal medicine doctor. If you have ulcers, this may just be the tip of the iceberg so to speak, and there may be other underlying problems. Blood tests can rule out several things and Upper/Lower GI series can do the rest. Don't put it off. Things like Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns Disease, Diverticulitis, are three things that need to be ruled out right away. Good luck!

Are u sure it's not gas? I used to get so bloated after eating anything, especially in the evening that it was hard to breathe. I would have to lie down till the gas that filled my stomach and chest finally went away. long story short, I figured out msg was the cause of it. Most everything we eat has it in it. Msg can cause a variety of health problems. It took awhile to get it down after spending hours at a time in grocery stores reading every ingredient. But my digestive track is great now once I cut out all the msg. Won't hurt to try it. You will end up eating healthier just by avoiding msg

Oh honey, I know this pain well. It takes time to find the triggers. You should talk to a nutritionist or naturopath. Western doctors have limited knowledge on the subject. Papaya enzymes have been a godsend for me. But without knowing more about your lifestyle it is hard to make a proper evaluation. You should consider a holistic approach to your proplem. Good luck.

There's no chance of diagnosing this one remotely. There are too many factors which may influence this. The only advice I can give you is to see your doctor again and explain your symptoms. I hope you find a solution.

If they're ulcers you should still be on more than pills. Go check again, or see a different doctor.
