My sister is an 8th grade we live in mississippi, she happened to have met a nice african american boy. We just moved down here in june do to a job transfer we came from ohio. My sister really likes him and he is the sweetest kid in the world. He ask her to be his girlfriend she said yes when she ask me to tell my parents for her my mom imediatly went straight for they don't except that down here,we have to protect you. If it is love of course you have to protect but why make someone break up? I dont care about other peoples opinon its truly heart breaking to see these tears.

    Is it normal? Yes. Is it right? No. It was how your parents were raised. It is doubtful that you will be able to change their views on this. But you and your sister keep your minds open.

    Agree with Leigh20.. I'm so sick of white people thinking they are superior to everyone!!!.. Like or not all races are the same of you cut them they bleed..( for those of you who don't know it's a saying).. Smh the ignorance of people disgust me

    Racism is for people with no future and no common sense. A white person is just as likely to do something to you as any other race. But i suppose if he's white and kills her it would be much more right than a black. Ppl these days. Jeez

    8th grade? Means its not likely to end in marriage.
    Let her chose who she wants. So far her choices seem to be for nice boys. If the parents don't like that she'll end up getting the bad white boy instead (they'll be happy then!)

    OH MY GOD I HATE BEING WHITE.
    Not to mention there are so many rules!
    Whites + Blacks is a no-no
    Whites + Mexican/Spanish is also a no-no
    White + White is a perfect match!
    I say fuck society and your parents because damn it if she likes a black dude then she likes a black dude. Plain and simple! Someone shoot me...

    This is a tough one. On one hand i say, that i understand your parents. Who wants to see their kids hurt because of other idiots? In the south, things are just different... I live in Michigan and its still barely acceptable. As a matter of fact, just last week a friend of mine who is mixed ( black and white) but dates a white girl had to endure crazy comments made about them in public. With that being said, of course you should not teach your kids to be racist. Unfortunately though, what parent wants their kid to be a martyr?

    I'm soo just pissed of. Im 16 and i have my hole life ahead of me and my sister is younger now she has to break things off for the shear fact my dads and asshole. Hes a marine and thinks that he can do what ever he pleases he told me and my sister that when we have boyfriends that if he dont like them then its not going to work. He also said that if he dont like who we plan to marry then hes gone. I told him ya no when i get married dont show up and he said fine with me. Im so done with trying to understand him. He gets pissed when i dont talk to him tell him anything? Whats the point if his opinion is the only one he cares about?

      I swear. We could be sister's... my father is a Marine and did the exact same thing! I'm hyped up about this now so I have to continue. It was always do this, do that! "Because I said so." Oh. My. God. Just yell at me for back talking and send me to my room! Plain. And. Fucking. Simple! I'm mad now. Just the thought of the man pisses me off!

    My parents are the same way, I think its just that generations morals and what they were taught and grew up with. When we are old it will be acceptable and normal for whites and blacks to date, its already getting there. I have just recently learned that parents aren't always right in their morals and opinions and they don't always do the right thing as hard as that is to accept.
