Is it normal for your friend to tell you you are ugly? Like I was dressed normally today. And he didn't say anything to me then. But when I returned home he texted me saying that I looked weird today. Well it was a little embarrassing and depressing.
Maybe he meant you looked weird as in your expressions, mental state or something. Did he say ugly or weird? Because your title said ugly but the post says weird.

You two sound young. If you're female, then your friend probably entering that phase in his life where he thinks women should be a certain way to be considered attractive (probably from TV, Games, etc), which will be his downfall for the next a few years; and seeing you dressed in your own style confuses him.
Anyway, ignore the comment and stay true to yourself.
Maybe they were telling you this so you didn't get picked on or something and trying to help but you took it the wrong way? I would prefer to have a friend tell me the truth instead of being fake and talking behind my back
