If he doesn't want to do it you should not insist. Respect is important in every relationship and the each people is different. You shouldn't expect him to accept what your ex accepted.
Nice suggestion. I would like to add one sentence to your suggestion and that is, some guys feel awkward about measuring their penis size, it is related to a mental string. Guys think that their GF measuring the size of penis is related to sex theory. Guys think that if she find out that the size is "XX cms", she will compare it with others. It is rather very complex....
Just one thing, respect your partner's personal space..
