Is it normal for straight people to not like gay people?

This may not be the best site to ask this question on, but I'll take a chance :

From a scientific perspective, why don't some straight people like gay people?

Could it be that straight people feel cheated by life, like if a woman sees a very handsome individual but later finds out he is gay, she feels stolen from - and vice-versa with men? Or is it just our societies' taboos telling us that loving a person of the same sex is wrong, but how did that come to be?

Yes, the Bible does say that laying with another man is wrong, but who wrote that? Why would such an order be cast in the first place?

I want anyone who reads this to step back from the world and just simply observe the goings on of the people here. Be open minded, try not to be hateful, and most of all do not be biased.

P.S. I am not a troll, by any means. I'm just a curious individual who may not make that sense.

Dunno. I think because so many people are closed minded to many different thing, the hate begins. People started disliking black people just cause it wasn't what they were used to. Human being seek to have power over things they can't understand. I personally Like everyone just the same. It's built into me, I'm the like a mom lol

I'm straight and have no different feeling or attitude to gay men or Lesbians. I grew up in a society that wanted to 'bash all poofs'. Maybe having a close relative who is gay, being a scientist and rejecting religious dogmas and living in Asia changed my environmental biased. The western is changing, especially over the last 10-20yrs.

My straight guy friend is always talking about how he hates gay people. He gets mad if the topic of homosexuality comes up. I can't figure it out and it kind of offends me because one of my best friends is gay (I'm a girl). To each his own, I guess.

I think that people who hate gays are in denial of their own homo tendencies. You may not like their lifestyle, but they have a right to live however they wish.

I was uncomfortable around gay people until I moved to Southern California, where being gay is about as exotic as being left handed is. Super nice community of W Hollywood - you should see how well everything is designed and maintained. I'd much rather live next to a gay couple than a fundie xtian couple.

When people (regardless of their own sexuality) have a feeling of dislike or even hatred against gay/homosexual topics, it is called homophobia. So it's some kind of irrational fear, probably because of the influence of the society or bad education.

Yes but that doesn't make it right. It's the same thing as racism and sexism imho.

  • There is too much gay propaganda going on lately. I think we should just accept them, not promote them.

There is no such thing as gay propaganda, you can't convince people to be gay. It doesn't work like that.

    SO!
This is from a friends class or religion, part where they tracked different areas of the bible.
Now originally in areas like Rome and Greece being gay was considered normal and in fact promoted. When Roman places such as Sparta went to war they promoted homosexual relationships between soldiers, in order to create strong bonds so they would fight harder to protect their lovers.
This was all fine till they got home and were no longer interested in their female counterparts and population begun to decline. In a bid to get men interested in woman and again and raise reproduction after a war they announced that homosexuality was a sin and the practice of it had to stop. It was god's law. From there they added it to the bible.
Feel free to debate but this is how I've learned and understood it.

From my observation, many gay people act in terribly fake ways, including the way they speak, walk, and express themselves. (This mostly applies to gay men)

I don't dislike the person for being gay. I dislike the fake show they put on to let others know that they are "gay". (yes in quotes)

Why the lispy lisp? Why the flailing hands. Why the contorted voice patterns? Women (with far more estrogen)don't even do those things.

I have personally known several people go from totally not gay in any way (all throughout highschool and college) all the way into adulthood, and then all of a sudden, claim to be gay and completely alter how they act.

I'm not judging, at all. It's not my business to. I'm just observing and stating opinion.

I think many straight people that see this don't like it but don't really know how to identify what they don't like about it. And then gays think straight people are judging them.

If that offends you. Well, whatever. It is what it is. I call it like I see it. Whoever gets offended isn't thinking straight.

Adulthood (from the ages of roughly 12 - 15 onwards) .. Strange but very true fact .. ! you do have to wonder if the bible promoted adam & eve then why were these highly religious races so into the concept of adam & steve .. lol ?

alot of people do not realise that they can contract the disease from a non gay union or even blood donation ! Also look back throughout history & you will find that literally everywhere from persia to greece openly accepted homosexual unions as a common part of daily life & progression into

also i personally hold the view that anything which is relatively new to a society & previously not widely accepted somewhat unsettles people as it's unfamiliar ground .. also think a lot of it is based around the concern for hiv spread diseases so commonly associated with gay unions - even though

I think there are arseholes & also alot of great people in both the gay & straight variety .. Personally i like people based on their nature , not their sexuality
.As long as theyr'e not hitting on me (which me being female has happened often & makes me feel somewhat awkward & question my feminity)

Just a question to make up an answer ..would u admire a straight guy with all the great qualities in life BUT abandoned his responsibility to his mother, or would you hate a gay that dedidate his entire life taking care his sick mother until she dies in his arm. I guess we may dislike gays preference to the same sex, but I do not hate them as a person.

God wrote the bible and it is nothing to contradict. It is wring to be gay because God says it is and he is the only one with no sins.

Speaking from a personal point of view, gay men physically lack something. I probably could not get attracted to them. Not because of some kind of taboo or social stigma (I enjoy man-on-man porn), but because in real life gay men usually have some kind of "feminine" air about them. It's purely biological. The chemistry just doesn't work.

  • forever_anon

Well, it's partly for the first reason you gave. Some straight people feel resentful when they discover that the person they're attracted to is gay. Also, people fear what they do not understand.

seriously fuck the bible. homosexuality has gone as far as to become a trend nowadays, which i guess is a good thing compared to how it used to be... Gay men are like women with a lot of humor, or a lot more compassion and empathy.

Gay women confuse me though. I can't tell if they truly have feelings for other women or are just tired of being taken advantage of by dick heads.

I think it is societies taboos telling us it's wrong. I noticed that a lot of things people are against is because someone told them to be against it. It doesn't become okay until someone says it's okay.

That's just my theory of it, though. I could be wrong.
