But elderly people are known for losing their memory...so are middle aged people. I don't want to be sitting there one day and realize I can't remember what my mom looks like or I can't remember what I used to look like. People who have tons of pictures or at least yearly family portraits don't have this issue. That's how I see it.
If forgetting your mom is what you're worried about, take a picture of her. Shouldn't be hard.
Also, this might seem like too much work, but if you really care you can do it. Get a journal and write down anecdotes that you can remember from your childhood. You don't have to write all your memories, just things you remember well or that made you happy. If you are older and trying to remember your past, these will be as good as or better than pictures of an event.
