Is it normal for premature babies to be more gassy?

My son was born 5 weeks early, weighing in at 5lbs and 18 in. He still doesn't latch very well so I pump breast milk and feed him through a bottle. I have a good diet but he still seems to get very gassy. Is this something I'm causing or do preemies just have more digestive problems?

I used to blow out one diaper after another at that age. Like that diaper commercial... Whoot there it is

Some babies have those issues. May or may not have anything to do with him being a premie. 5 weeks premature is not too extreme anyway.

Its normal and some babies have issues with milk. Also try changing the type of bottles you use...some contribute to gas by allowing too much air flow. Have you had the doc look at his tongue? Some babies have a tongue that is "too connected at the base" (user the tongue) and it can hinder latching. Good luck!

It's 100% normal. Prem or not, all babies are different, but are more prone to colic if they're prem. Remember that premies' mouths are smaller so get bottles with prem teats and express if you're breast feeding, and feed more often.

I'm no expert in babies but, he could be lactose intolerant. Talk to your child's doctor about switching to a nondairy formula.
