Is it normal for people to think you are "deep" because you are quiet?

I am quiet because anything anybody wants to talk about just does not interest me anymore...All they talk is shit, shit and more shit...

It is common but some quiet people are just more "derp" then "deep".

I've had one person tell me I seem like a mysterious genius or something, but several others tell me I seem like that one kid that's just going to drag a gun to school and open fire.

I think that quiet people are not really deep thinkers, not all of them. It's a poor assumption. I am a very quiet person, and I'm not that deep of a thinker. I used to be picked on a lot when I was a kid, so I just dont bother other people.

and to think because you are quiet means you are a deep thinker just makes you arrogant.

LOL, yes and sometimes people just zone out for a moment and are not thinking at all when they have a far-away look.

I am quiet cause I don't like talking to people. I find my thoughts more interesting than conversing with people.

Sometimes I have nothing to say. Whether or not someone interprets that as deep is beyond me.

I'm quiet most of the time and people always ask me "what are you thinking about?" or "whats wrong?"...its gotten to the point where I just ignore them. Is it really that strange to be quiet? Am i supposed to be loud and obnoxious like 99% of the population?

People think even though I’m quite in real life I’m actually a trouble maker; which is not true. I just don't like getting into stupid conversations.

Thats like saying that just because I am loud makes me obnoxious I could just be loud because I love to give speeches. Personally I think quiet people are probably shy especially when they are in a place with a lot of people. On the other hand they could just not know the people and thats why they are not speaking; In which case they are not shy.

This happens to me all the time. i tend to go into deep thought in the middle of my quietness though.

People may assume that you're in deep thought, philosophizing or analysing things if you're quiet.

The reason for this is

A) Many of quiet people (like myself) actually are!

B) Because they don't know, and this may bother them, so they make assumptions to comfort themselves.

Some quiet people are shy, or just dumb, whereas some are quiet because they are extremely philosophical and introverted (they could obviously be shy as well though).

It could be possible that they are saying those kinds of things to help you out and put a positive spin on your shyness, since it's a characteristic not many people actually strive to have.
