Is it normal for one's family to joke about them "having tourette's?"

My family has always joked in public about me having Tourette's when I make noises or say things that I can't control, even though I don't have it. My teachers have also asked if I had it, less jokingly, which I thought was just another term for "obnoxious child". And my 4th grade teacher told me I had it and it means I lack self-control. But I don't have it, and if I did, I outgrew it. If I do APPEAR to have it, I'm probably just faking it.

If you don't have Tourette's then there's no logical reason for you to have tics, and uncontrollable vocalizations. If you actually don't have Tourette's then you should be able to control yourself.

There are tic disorders other than Tourette’s syndrome. Tourette’s syndrome specifically means you experience both vocal and motor tics that you developed in childhood or adolescence. You could be diagnosed with something different depending on when your tics appeared, how frequently you have them, and whether you have just motor tics, just vocal, or both.

There’s also a possibility that OP autistic, but that’s a whole ‘nother ball of yarn. I’m autistic and I do make noises when stressed or sensorily overloaded that are very hard to control.
