sounds like you two need to have a serious discussion on what you are looking for in the relationship.
remember, though, you can't go into something like this with a closed mind - you have to be willing to listen to what your partner wants to say, and what they want. Don't automatically think "well he must be gay then" ... i mean you've been with him almost a quarter of a century already! I think you'd know if he was gay.
