It may have been considered normal once upon a time but it certainly isn't normal today and more important it's unnecessary. Inflicting pain on a person because they are smaller then you and because they aren't doing what you like is not parenting, it's bullying and abusing the fact that you are there parent. Would you teach your daughter to go out to the store and whack an old lady with a belt because she cut the que and because she's smaller then your daughter?? Of course not, parenting is leading by example so lead...
