  • Part of the problem is washing your hair every day.

    That might sound paradoxical.

Whenever you wash your hair with shampoo, you strip your scalp of natural oils. In response, your scalp will rapidly make more oil. Do this daily, your scalp programmes itself to produce far more oil than it should really need to in order to make up for what is stripped away.

It's going to be icky for a few weeks (in which case I recommend keeping plenty of hats around), but washing your hair less often will eventually lessen the issue. I used to have the same problem from washing my hair every day, but now I've moved down to only washing it every 2-3 days, it less of a problem than it was.

Alternatively, you could just take out the daily shampooing and (very thoroughly) rinse your hair with warm water. That won't completely strip your hair but it will remove a lot of the excess oil and smell. I do that on days where my hair is a bit too oily but I don't want to shampoo it.
