  • I totally agree with thisissomuchfun. If they are simply asking, then they haven't overstepped the bounds. If you can't/really don't want to change shifts, then just say no. If you are valuable to the company, they won't have any problem with that at all.

    On the other hand, if it's really no problem for you to change shifts, then maybe you should consider changing, but subtly let your boss know that you're doing them a favor. Something like, "It will be a hassle to change shifts, and I'll have to reschedule some appointments and things, but I can help you out here." This way, you're making a potentially ugly situation go away for your boss (most managers hate firing people), and you come out looking a bit like a hero.
