It's still stealing, because in the case of rent OP's father ought to request rent payment and then OP would pay it just like anyone else. Taking a check that's written out to someone else is considered stealing regardless of who takes it. Last time I checked landlords don't just take tenants' paychecks that said tenants receive from their employers, but rather they receive check payments that tenants willingly write on their own bank accounts. Also there is the small matter of a lease. Any way I see it OP's father a thief!
Yes, I think the Dad is a jerk and a thief! I was merely trying to point out that the Creep's assertion about rent is incorrect. I don't think OP owes the greedy father a damn thing of course.
Except the OP says, "When I turned 18, He couldn't cash the benefits into his account anymore. So then he made me give him the ss benefits." This would imply that the Dad demands the OP endorse the check or give him cash in return for the benefits the Dad is providing. There is a conditional precedent for the legal issues here.
OP just needs to take care of handling the money his or herself. I think the father is greedy, because my folks have never charged me rent, and nor would I ever charge a child of mine rent the father seems rather opportunistic.
IIN For my dad to take my social security money?

Nothing to do with leases and tenants! He's bullying her into letting him take her rightful government benefits
