It sounds like he just wants you to succeed in life. Being grounded for bad grades is normal, even for long amounts of time. Most parents who ground their children just want them to know they are serous about doing or not doing something and they think it's important you learn to do or not do those things.

If you think the length of time is unreasonable, you should talk to him. If you don't like being yelled at, you should talk to him about it, and if it's more than you can take, or it escalates past yelling, tell someone like a teacher or someone that you can trust.

I think it's over the top. You didn't mention how old you are. If you are over 16 tell him to take a flying leap. If you're under 16 then call Children's Aid. Maybe you'll get fostered with a nice normal family.

If you're not trying then I can see why you would be punished, however being grounded despite attempting to get your grades up seems off. It might be worth having a word with your father to talk about your struggles at school and suggest to him that you'll seek out extra support (homework clubs, peer mentoring, tutor etc.). If he sees how hard you're trying to keep up then he'll have no reason to punish you if your grades drop. If he persists then it may be worth speaking to a trusted adult about his behaviour.

Depends on how bad the grades are and how extreme the punishments are.
