Sometimes parents see in their child what they don't like about themselves and act like jerks to them. Sometimes parents are jealous of their child and act like jerks to them. Sometimes parents are just assholes and act like jerks just because they can.
If you don't like someone, there is no law saying you have to have anything to do with them. It doesn't matter if they are related to you or not.
There have been times I didn't like how people treated me, so I didn't have anything to do with them. This has included my mom, dad, stepmom, mother in law, step sister, and brother (not all at the same time.) I told them I didn't like x,y,z and I wasn't going to have anything to do with them. Some of them made the choice to change, some didn't. The ones that made the choice to change, I talked to again. The ones that didn't, I still don't talk to. I can't control other people's behavior, but I can control mine. At first it was hard because I missed them, or thought I was doing something I shouldn't do because they were family. Its easier now and I don't feel bad about it anymore. I had to learn that people will treat you how you let them treat you. My family learned that I won't take abuse or disrespect. I'll leave. I absolutely won't put up with it. The ones who wanted me around changed. The ones who didn't change their ways, I don't talk to. I don't need their drama anyway.
