Oh dear, that took me back many decades: my late ex husband was EXACTLY like that and like him, your boyfriend is a control freak. Intelligence has nothing to do with it, by the way, except that an intelligent control freak is harder to deal with in my opinion.
What sort of things to do fight about and how much fighting do you actually do? It sounds tedious and pointless and boring to me, which were some of the reasons I got out of that marriage.
If you're the only one he fights with and vice versa, I hope you never have children to be around all this fighting. The fact that you both "refuse to be wrong" makes me think you're both getting and unable to agree to disagree: maybe you're both gettingsomething out of these fights?
If you see no signs he'll ever change and you can't live with this, then it would be dumb of you to continue the relationship.
