2) Ya it's normal, if not obnoxious. Everybody has to add their two cents when you are doing something life changing like having a child. I remember when my ex got pregnant (sadly ending in miscarriage) the stupid ass advice we got was so mind blowing at times that we started writing some of it down. One person told us that the miscarriage happened because she drank orange juice during the pregnancy, and that it was her fault. That ended well for the advice giver btw.
