Assholes, as you call them, cause strong emotions in other people, even if those are negative. Whereas the sweet, supportive guys (again - as you call them) don't cause any emotions at all.
Strong negative emotions - hate, disgust, loathing - can be reversed into positive ones. No emotions can't be transformed into anything - from nothing comes nothing.
