Lucky you - not to badmouth anyone - but when I'm around areas with larger concentrations of Chinese people (there's more than one in my area) - they're always talking in the Cantonese dialect, making me feel left out (Note that the people in question aren't always bilingual in Mandarin and their regional dialect.)
Is it normal for me to be interested in Chinese culture?

I started to learn mandarin and got quite good at it, it's a very easy language to learn.

Very easy, I'm slowly becoming fluent. Each time I visit Chinatown, I'm always talking to the locals in Mandarin as if it were my own language lol
