Is it normal for him to be this way

My current bestfriend and I have grown on each other over the year and have become really close. I text him just about everyday, but the conversations don't last long anymore. I see him everyday at school and he seems happy. I texted
him to hang out this weekend and he never replied. I asked him if I was being annoying and he said I was being too clingy. I can understand that I guess but we started talking more off of that, and I told him that I would hate it if we grew apart. He said it would eventually happen and it really seems as if he doesn't care. I told him I thought I was being too clingy because I love him (like a brother) but then he told me to keep it to myself. He wouldn't tell me why. It feels like I can't have a sensitive relationship with him without him going into realist mode. He never says anything good about me, nor does he ever call me his bestfriend, if he does it's rare. Im a boy and I'm gay, and he says he doesn't have a problem with it. He has two moms. So that wouldn't be the factor I don't think.

I guess I want to know if it's normal for him to be this insensitive?
